ARTWORK, I THINK?

This piece took me around 7 days to complete.  It actually took me a month but it sounds better if I say it only took me 5 days (I mean 7 days) to finish.  What it is, I don't really know and why I did it, that too I cannot answer with certainty.  I just know that for some strange reason I had to draw a 3 dimensional hand coming out of a picture to paint a picture.

I did this piece last year for my father for Christmas.  It's supposed to be a bear but for some reason he looks more like a racoon to me.  At first I didn't like it, but the purple grew on me.

REMINDS ME OF MY EX GIRLFRIEND
First, let me just say I am not an artist and don't pretend to be an artist.  I simply do these carvings and paintings because my little brain sends synaptic messages through my fingers and forces me to pick up a carving knife or a paint brush.  If it were up to me, I would pick up a good glass of scotch and a lint brush but as I already said, my brain forces me to do things and I think it's trying to control me.  These are just a few of the pieces....

(another moose for the wife)

Moose Walking through the Forest

The jury is still out on this piece.  I can tell you one thing, it took a long time to carve and paint and an even longer time to decide not to throw it in the garbage!!!

Texas Toast

Hey, what can I say, I like the color, Orange.  Yep, really are no excuses as to why I carved this piece!

I might have gone a little overboard on this particular painting.  Kind of gives you a headache if you stare at it too long!!!!!

(Elvis the Cow by Robert Margetts)

Now, this bat signal took forever to complete.  I actually finished it one late Saturday afternoon and mistakenly stayed it with speckled white gloss paint (I thought I was spraying it with a clear gloss).  I came withing inches of smashing it into tiny pieces...

The Bat Signal

Ok, it's pretty obvious that I like BATMAN.  This particular piece was supposed to represent the three changes of batman over the past 50 years.  It was carved out of red oak and then some idiot decided to paint over it (me)

THE DARK NIGHT IN POP ART

I like this one.  It reminds me of Christmas.

I can't really can't tell you what I was thinking about when I carved this piece.  I think it looks like a fish, but my wife thinks it ressembles...NOTHING...

Ok, here goes my fish craze.  To be honest, I really don't care much for fish, but what the heck.

THE PROZAK FISH

(The Fish Skeleton by Robert Margetts)

Now to continue the madness, I decided to venture into other animals both with the carving knife and with the paintbrush.

This tree almost fell on our house back in 2005.  We were living in Cumming, Georgia at the time when the hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans.

Jerry Garcia's Moose

(THE BEATLES COMING TO AMERICA by Robert Margetts)

My Uncle Charley wrote a book once called "Eddy and the Mooney goats" (I realize that I probably misspelled the name of the book.)  I always thought this would make a great name for this carved piece.  Consequently, this one is dedicated to my favorite Uncle.

(Edward the Walking Ardvark by Robert Margetts)

Can't say much about this piece.  It was carved from pine and probably took me more time to actually do it than it looks.  I know what you are thinking, but why spend so much time and effort on stuff when you could be watching college football?  I don't have an answer!!!!

This one kind of looks like my father - in - law.

Uncle Tom

Carved from popular.  It looks like my hand after I finished the piece!!!

This one might make it's way to the fireplace!!!!!!

WHERE THE FISH ARE

BOB MARLEY'S FISH

Obviously I hung this one up in my house.  Hopefully it looks like two bears playing with one another.  And the small bear underneath this piece, yes, I did that one too.

This tree (what's left of it, almost fell on our house one night.)  I decided to carve it into the shape of that particular tree.

same carving, different background.....

I really don't like these next few pieces.  They are actually jammed under my bed,  out of sight and out of mind.

My old house.  Yep, when I ran out of canvas, I painted on the walls.  No wonder I couldn't sell the my house!!!!!!!!!!!!!
